I do all the grocery shopping for my family and consistently see why so many struggle with their health and weight. When I look into others carts I see too many processed foods. From the chips, frozen dinners, boxed food and frozen deserts it's no wonder the population in North American is over 60% overweight!

Today I'm going to share a really quick tip on how to navigate a grocery.

Which Weight Loss Program Should I Choose?

With so many "diets" out there today, it can be very confusing on choosing a program that is right for you.

Most commercial programs (the ones you see on TV) are designed for a person to keep coming back day after day, month after month and year after year. They only really seem to work if you go for life and spend THOUSANDS of dollars. Then you have the "quick fix" programs where most have a very restricted calorie intake and you are promised to lose all you want to lose by taking the tons of supplements, the MAGIC pills and shakes. Don't get me wrong, most do lose weight but at what costs to your health?

Here are the risks of the above programs:
  • Muscle and water loss
  • Carb sensitivity
  • Not sustainable
  • Limited variety
  • Regain weight back and usually more
  • Unhealthy calorie restricted diet
 If your goal is to be healthy, look and feel energized then the above programs are not the best choice for you.

Senator who attacked Doctor Oz over dietary supplements, Fact or Fiction


There has been a lot of feedback t on the Dr. Oz video that has gone viral (see link below) about his recommendation of weight loss supplements. I don’t always agree with Dr. Oz but I also know that quality supplementation will help with someone’s weight loss efforts. I realize that it is of some people’s belief that supplementation is not needed at all and that eating right and working out is the “ONLY” way to lose weight. It is very true that without great eating habits and some sort of exercise, losing weight is virtually impossible. It is also very true that with the right supplementation, you can lose fat and unwanted pounds faster than without supplements. With the correct supplements you can also help repair your metabolism and some hormone issues like leptin resistance.  I don’t know whether or not the supplements in question will work and I also know for sure that there is NO “MAGIC” pill! I believe Dr. Oz chose the wrong verbiage to which he admits to. Let’s be honest even if he did profit from these products how is that any different than any other celebrity getting paid for endorsing products? Jennifer Hudson, Jessica Simpson, Valerie Bertinelli and many more have endorsed weight loss programs and thousands more have endorsed products like makeup, vehicles, clothes and foods. Do all those products work or are they all great? 

As for the video with Dr. Oz and Senator Claire McCaskill. It is very interesting how she condemns him for promoting products on his show insinuating he profits from it, yet this same person “received over $146,000 in campaign contributions from one of the largest pharmaceutical retailers in North America. According to campaign contribution data published at OpenSecrets.org, prescription drug mega-retailer Express Scripts gave McCaskill over $109,000 in campaign contributions, most of which was routed through lobbyist groups or PACs. (1)

Sen. McCaskill also accepted over $37,000 from Monsanto, widely regarded to be the most evil corporation in the world and an enemy of sustainable food production, heirloom seeds and traditional American farming methods.”

So bottom line is yes you can get healthy and lose weight with eating right and exercise. I also know you can definitely speed up your efforts when working with a trained weight loss coach and with the correct supplementation.

What to Do After Eating Badly

 
So, some jerk left out the double chocolate cake and you had your way with it. Or, maybe you fell head first into the punch bowl with your mouth wide open and after that, anything fried seemed like a great idea. There are many ways to fall into some bad eating traps, but one day or even three days of badness doesn’t have to spiral into a habit.  Here are some tips to minimize the damage and get you back on track.
 
STOP. Don’t let one bad meal or one mouthful of cream sauce send you spiraling into the abyss. Regain control of yourself by accepting what you’ve already eaten and making your next choice a sensible one.

Hydrate. Give your body the ammunition it needs to work through the junk you’ve just eaten. Drink plenty of water and give yourself at least 3-4 hours before eating anything again, so that your digestive system can focus on processing.

Move. Go for a brisk walk or hit the gym. You’ll feel better about yourself and get your blood flowing. Fresh air will clear your head.

Be honest. What was the reason you ate whatever it was that has you feeling gross now? Was it in response to a stressful situation? Were you bored? Did you feel pressure to eat what everyone else was eating? Figure it out. Write it down. Understand the why.

Green juice. It really is the ultimate panacea. Don’t drink a green juice directly after eating badly – rather, wait until the next day and start your morning with one. Perhaps have several green juices through the morning and early afternoon and waive food until late afternoon. This will allow your body some time to rejuvenate itself.
 
Understanding the WHY behind your decision to eat badly is really the most important thing. If your current eating habits are leaving you feeling unfulfilled and deprived, then of course you’re going to continually rebel against whatever restrictions you’ve put on yourself.
 
If you know you have an event coming up where you’ll be tempted to overeat, take control of the situation. Tell yourself: Okay, I love the Fettuccine Alfredo at that restaurant. I will make sure to have my green juice that morning, eat a big salad with plenty of nutrients for lunch, and start my dinner with a small salad and ask for a half portion of the pasta. Enjoy the heck out of it and feel great because you planned it. It’s not out of control in any way.
 
Remember, life is too short to be constantly stressed about what you’re putting in your mouth. Take control, understand your decisions, and enjoy yourself!
